CfP: “Sounding Out the Archive”

Die “NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group” lädt ein zur Konferenz unter genanntem Thema. Die Veranstaltung wird vom 18. bis 20. Juni 2015 in Lodz, Polen, stattfinden. Abstracts werden bis zum 05. Januar entgegengenommen.

Weitere Informationen aus dem Aufruf:

“The NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group is organising to submit one or more preconstituted panel proposals to the forthcoming NECS conference (Łódź, Poland 18-20 June 2015), taking a sound-focused approach to the conference’s Archives of/for the Future theme (see http://necs.org). A preconstituted panel potentially allows for a more cohesive exploration of sound in this context, and we would encourage a broad range of responses to the theme.

Proposals are welcome for 15-20 minute papers on the subject of archives, sound/music and time-based media (including radio, television, new media, game studies). Possible topics could include, but are not limited to:

- creative and artistic use of archival sound and music
- found sound, found music
- sound and media convergence
- sound and nostalgia
- record collecting
- sound media obsolescence
- sound, music and digitization
- remixing and mash-ups
- future histories of sound

Please send abstracts of up to 150 words, plus 3-5 key bibliographical references, along with your name and institutional affiliation, to Dr Nessa Johnston (n.johnston@gsa.ac.uk) by Monday the 5th of January 2015. We will be in touch by Thursday the 8th of January with a decision (The general submission deadline is the 31st of January).

Best wishes,

Dr Nessa Johnston, Glasgow School of Art

PS – If you are not currently a member of the NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group, consider this an invitation to join!”
